Our Love (don´t Throw It All Away)

Bee Gees -

Maybe I don´t wanna know the reason why
But lately you don´t talk to me
Darling I can´t see me in your eyes
I hold you near but you´re so far away
And it´s losing you I can´t believe
To watch you leave and let this feeling die
You alone are the living thing that keeps me alive
And tomorrow if I´m here without your love
You know I can´t survive
Only my love can raise you high above it all

Don´t throw it all away , our love , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love

(break)

We can take the darkness and make if full of light
But let your love flow back to me
How can you leave and let this feeling die
This happy room will be a lonely place when you are gone
And I won´t even have your shoulders for the crying on
No other women´s love could be as true , I´m begging you

Don´t throw it all away , our love , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love

We changed the world we made it ours to hold
But dreams are made for those who really try
This losing you is real
But I still feel you here inside

Don´t throw it all away , our love , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love , our love
Don´t throw it all away , our love

(repeat last verse at least twice more and fade out)

A short biography of John Woo

John Woo (Wu Yusen) was born in Guangzhou, China on May 1, 1946. When he was four, his family moved to Hong Kong. They were extremely poor and Woo was unable to attend school until he was nine. His family was homeless for a while and he learned the laws of the street. He has said that men were killed on the doorstep of his family's home.

At nine, he began attending a Lutheran school where he became obsessed with movies. He has cited both the religion of the school and his Chinese background as influences in his films. In his words, "I really enjoy using Chinese traditional themes about morality, honor, behavior, loyalty, and sacrifice. At the same time, I am very influenced by Jesus Christ's spirit, that He sacrificed Himself to save the whole world. So, on a conscious level, I try to blend all the themes together."

Woo went to become a director of movies, which are listed in the filmography section. For some time, Woo directed movies for Tsui Hark another director who produced Woo's films, "The Killer", "A Better Tomorrow", and "A Better Tomorrow 2" among others. After "The Killer", the idea for which Tsui took credit for creating, Woo and Tsui split. (Woo is officially listed as the writer and says Tsui's claims are completely false.) For the second sequel to "A Better Tomorrow", Woo had wanted to make a prequel about a boyhood experience in Vietnam. However, Tsui made this movie as "A Better Tomorrow 3". Woo was not involved but Chow Yun Fat, the actor from Woo's "The Killer", "Hard Boiled", "A Better Tomorrow's 1 and 2", and "Once a Thief" starred. Woo made his version of this concept with "A Bullet in the Head".

In 1992, Woo made his last movie in Hong Kong, "Hard Boiled". He then moved to Los Angeles in anticipation of China's takeover of Hong Kong. Since then, he has made 3 American movies and produced several tv shows

Hard Boiled

 and 1/2 out of 5. 1992.

Hard Boiled stars Chow Yun-Fat as the hard-boiled cop Tequila. After his partner is murdered in what is one of the most spectacular and well-known action scenes ever in a movie, (watch for the banister) Tequila takes out his personal vendetta on the triads with the help of an undercover cop and John Woo, in a cameo as a night-club owner.

This movie is not quite as dramatic as "The Killer" but the action scenes are first rate and there is a bit of humor. Also the story is not quite as good as "The Killer" as it is a bit cliched but this seems to be purposeful, as an homage to other film makers. As for the clarinet scene at the beginning, it was almost removed because the producers thought the Chinese wouldn't understand American jazz. All in all I very good movie worth seeing many times.

out of 5. 1989. "The Killer"

is John Woo's best movie. It stars Chow Yun-Fat as an assassin for the triads who accidentally blinds a lounge singer on a job. This makes him reconsider his profession and he tries to get out of the business.

One of the reasons this is such a great film is the varied techiques that John Woo, the director (obviously), uses. To show the similarity of the Killer and of the cop chasing him, Woo uses a flashback to remind us that the two men reacted the same way to a man with a gun bursting through the door. Woo also uses much Christian symbolism including doves surrounding characters and a climatic seen in a church that involves candles. There is also a dark sense of humor in the movie. For instance, through a plot complication, the Killer and his pursuer call each other Dumbo and Mickey Mouse, contrasting Disney characters to the *extreme* violence.

If you can find it at your local video store, (it seems most Blockbusters are now carrying it) rent "The Killer" to see John Woo at his best.

(CNN) -- The Genesis return capsule crashed into the desert on Wednesday missing a mid-air retrieval that was meant to protect the spacecraft from a potentially damaging impact with the Earth.

"The capsule has suffered extensive damage. It has broken apart on the desert floor," said an official on NASA TV. "Hopefully, there will be enough evidence to see what went wrong. Whether there will be enough science left inside remains to be seen."

Teams are attempting to recover the craft. NASA has warned them that a "live mortar" or explosive charge designed to deploy the chutes may still be armed.

NASA officials at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California said that long-range cameras did not detect the parachutes that should have slowed the craft.

"There was no drogue chute or parafoil," said a JPL spokesman. "Under those condition, the Genesis capsule hit the ground at about 100 mph."

NASA officials located the spacecraft around noon on Wednesday after it dug into the desert soil.

It is unclear if any of the scientific instruments or samples were damaged.

The daring trip to study the solar wind streaked home today as the Genesis capsule makes a fiery ride across the skies of Oregon, northeastern Nevada, southwestern Idaho and western Utah.

By 11:55 am EDT, it will reach the roof of the atmosphere, about 410,000 feet, and start glowing like a streaking meteor. The spacecraft will be be retrieved by helicopter above the Utah desert carrying extraterrestrial samples.

"We are bringing a piece of the sun down to Earth," said Charles Elachi, the director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. "That's going to give us some fundamental understanding of our origins."

Scientists say the data will not only reveal the composition of the sun, but illuminate how our planet could have formed from clouds of stellar dust.

"Four and a half billion years ago, all of the matter of the solar system, including us, was part of a giant molecular cloud," said Don Burnett, principal investigator for the Genesis mission. "Genesis is providing the chemical composition of that solar nebula. ...The material is still stored for us in the surface of the sun."

Two helicopters will be poised above a Utah Air Force base to snag the Genesis spacecraft's return capsule. The sturdy container contains atomic isotopes collected as particles streaming off the sun, known as the solar wind.

The unorthodox midair retrieval will snag the first extraterrestrial samples since the Apollo missions in the 1970s.

Genesis collected the particles over the last two years on special tiles made from silicon, diamond, gold, sapphire and other materials. The solar particles, embedded in the collector tiles, were ejected at about 280 miles per second (450 km/s) from the sun's scorching corona or outer atmosphere.

Genesis will fill in an astronomical blank spot about its makeup.

"What we've been missing is a starting point," says Burnett. "These samples allow precise measurements of the abundance of elements and isotopes in the sun."

Our star accounts for 99 percent of the mass in the solar system. It is composed mostly of isotopes of hydrogen and helium and includes 60 other elements including neon, argon carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and iron.

In all, Genesis has collected the equivalent of a few grains of the material. Scientists say that is enough to keep researchers busy for decades.

"In some cases, we will be studying these one atom at a time," said Burnett who estimates there will be a "billion billion" atoms available for study.

"We'll have a reservoir of solar matter," he said. "We can meet the requirements for (studying ) the solar composition through the 21st century."

Genesis mission

Launched in 2001 from Cape Canaveral, the Genesis spacecraft traveled beyond the protective cloak of Earth's magnetosphere for two years before heading home. Because of Earth's electromagnetic field, much of the sun's deadly radiation and material never reaches the planet's surface.

In April, the craft ejected a 500-pound return capsule for return to Earth.

It has been approaching the planet at a leisurely 600 mph. By the time it reaches Earth's atmosphere, the craft will be racing toward the planet at more than 25,000 mph. It will use a series of parachutes to slow its descent.

On Wednesday, it is expected to enter the atmosphere at 11:55 am ET above Oregon and, just two minutes later, glide down over the Utah desert. The main parachute, a wing-like parafoil, will deploy during its decent and a helicopter will snatch the Genesis capsule when it is still about a mile off the ground.

This daring retrieval method will protect the samples and sensitive instruments during reentry. A crash landing, even at the capsule's relatively slow speed of 9 mph, could ruin some of the data collected during the mission.

The prospects for success look good according to NASA's retrieval partner in the mission, the aerospace firm Vertigo.

"If they can find it, the success rate is very high," said Vertigo official Roy Haggard.

A modified helicopter -- with a winch, hydraulic capture pole and hundreds of feet of line -- will follow the capsule by radar until it moves in and snags the parafoil. Because the Genesis capsule must repressurize in the upper atmosphere, scientists want to minimize the sample's exposure to air and possible contamination.

Once it is secured at a NASA facility, scientists can breathe easier, said Burnett.

"After that we can take our time, and we will see what we have," he said.

Larva is the Shinma (in Japanese shinma means "demon and god") who forced Miyu to become a vampire. He is one of the Western Shinma. He was sent to kill her before her vampiric blood awakened, but Larva became attached to the little girl. He waited too long to kill her. When he finally tried, Miyu's vampiric blood awakened and she took his blood. Because of this, he is bound to her. She has sealed his face and voice behind a mask and keeps him as her servant and friend. Before being locked away, Larva was a cold and malicious demon, but he becomes attached to Miyu after he is bound to her. He sympathizes with her and defends her, even against those who would free him by being rid of her. He is not really a prisoner (I don't know why he doesn't leave; perhaps its a feeling of debt toward Miyu). When Larva falls ill, Miyu is forced to turn to Himiko, her most dangerous enemy, for help. But she does it, and makes it clear that she will do anything for Larva.

Later, in the manga series, Miyu's blood is removed from Larva by Carlua. He loses all memory of her and returns to his former self; he fights on the side of the Western Shinma. Eventually, he faces off against Miyu and kills her himself, as she is too stunned by his betrayal and defends herself weakly. Then she is revived by Yui and she and Larva later return to their former relationship. His real name is said to be unpronouncable, so he adopted "Larva". Larva means "mask, spirit, or ghost".

MIYU

"Her golden eyes... they are strange, yet beautiful... They'll close the gateway to your tears... stopping the flow of the hourglass of time... severing the string... known as misery, the sound... and the rythm... disappear..."

chorus from the "Rimbu no Mori" theme

"People always talk like that... with clouded eyes and tainted lips... even though the truth is always within them."

Miyu, volume 1, episode 1 (OAV)

"Tea is always bitter... but Blood is warm and sweet."

Miyu, Manga Chap.4

"I wonder if this human heart will whither away before then. If so... Will my sorrow disappear as well?"

Miyu, Manga Chap. 5

"Fog... inhuman strength... glowing eyes... fangs... hm. Just like the vampires of legend, it would seem. But perhaps a bit too faithful to the legend."

Miyu, volume 1, episode 1 (OAV)

"But it would seem I'm not quite the monster you're thinking of. But... it's what he desired. If a human so desires, I can give him immortality... time-everlasting... But the thing that we, as well as you, are chasing after is different. It's only a bloodthirsty imitation vampire."

Miyu, to Himiko. volume 1, episode 1 (OAV)

Himiko: "You lost, Miyu."

Miyu: "I returned the Shinma, Ranka, to the Dark which is its home... I didn't lose."

Himiko: "I don't mean as the Hunter... I'm talking about the woman within you."

volume 1, episode 2 (OAV)

"Is there anything wrong being... seriously in love?"

Miyu, manga.

MIYU YACHIYO

(TV theme)

When I open the door, there is Eternity

A call from a distance. Whose voice is that?

Someone strokes my hair. Who are you?

The sound of a flute recites the land of hope.

Time and memories pass through me.

I don't need anyone; (it is a lie)

I don't need myself; (yes, it is true)

Footprints in the sand are slowly crumbling...

The night is mysterious. Hiding reality, yet showing dreams.

Invited by the moon, darkness spreads in the sky.

The night is purple. Tears are falling down.

The sky is crying in my place...

When my eyes are closed, there is Eternity.

A whisper close to me. Whose voice is this?

Someone is touching my face. Who are you?

The sound of a flute recites the land of hope.

Time and memories pass through me.

I don't need anyone; (it is a lie)

I don't need myself; (yes, it is true)

A doll made of sand is slowly crumbling...

The night is mysterious. Hiding reality, yet showing dreams.

Invited by the moon, darkness spreads across the sky.

The night is ultramarine. Stars are falling down.

The moon is singing in my place...

The night is purple. Tears are falling down.

The sky is crying in my place...

Miyu: "Poor thing. You can only comprehend the world by your own measure... almost as if desperately insisting that you're human..."

Miyu is a lonely girl who has become a vampire. She hunts the Shinma, evil demons/gods who trapped her parents, and confesses her deepest secrets to Larva, her Shinma servant and friend. She wishes to free her parents and desperately tries to live a normal life (it's a bit hard when you're a vampire and you hunt Shinma). She first meets Himiko when she is chasing Raen, and decides that Himiko would be better off without getting any further involved. Himiko, because of her spiritual powers (I think) remembers Miyu and decides to try to find her. She does, and is taken to the dimension where Miyu lives (a really strange place with red lighting, twisted black trees and floating eyeballs). Presumably, when Miyu and Larva finish returning the stray Shinma to the Dark, they will follow.

One of the more interesting things is that Miyu is not a typical vampire. Oh, she's got the pale skin, glowing eyes and ability to disappear, but she's certainly not a vampire of old. (In fact, when she first sees Raen, she remarks that he looks just like a vampire of legend... A bit too much like a vampire of legend.) She, to the extreme surprise/fear/fascination of Himiko, walks around in broad daylight, does not react to garlic, crushes crucifixes into faerie dust and licks up holy water, and has a reflection. Nor does she turn into a bat or mist at any time. Her eyes are golden and her skin is pale, but other than that, she resembles a typical vampire not at all (I have yet to notice her fangs: they're normal size, not sticking a foot out of her mouth).

Miyu's secret is a terrible one: the Shinma were released by her fault, and her parents were frozen in time as a result. So long ago that the exact amount of time has slipped her mind, Miyu was just a normal, thirteen-year old girl. One night, as she stood at the edge of the sea, gazing out at the alluring waves, a man floated across the water toward her. He is entirely in color, while she is in black and white. Her previously reddish eyes are black. He whispers: "Do not be afraid." Miyu watches him come, uncertain. The man looks at her and repeats: "Do not be afraid." He puts a sharp nail to her throat and sighs. He explains to her that he is sorry to have to do this; that it is not her fault, but that she cannot be allowed to awaken. Unfortunately, the man waits too long. He mentions the word "blood", and Miyu starts from the trance she had fallen into. She gazes at him as the man, unaware of the change, reaches out to caress her cheek. She hears the pounding of blood in his body, sees the veins throb in his neck. The scene flashes to the man, who looks sad. He reaches out to kill her, but the scene goes back to Miyu, who's eyes are now a brilliant gold. She reaches out and takes the man's head in her hands. He looks frightened. She reaches over and bites his neck soundlessly. He is stunned. A trickle of blood courses down his neck.

Miyu's mother and father speak quietly in the next room. Miyu comes home and apologizes for being late from school, promising that she'll never be late again. As she runs off, her mother looks anxious. "Do you think it's happened yet?" she asks her husband. He ignores her, staring deep into his very red wine.

Miyu dreams of the man and the seashore. She sees a hand reach out to the kneeling man, a hand much like the man's own. It places a white mask on the man's face. The man screams soundlessly, his hands trying to tear the mask away. She thinks: "And now his voice and face are sealed away forever." She tries to convince herself that all this was just a dream, but she does not believe it. She begins to cry.

At school the next day, a girl faints. Miyu's eyes glow gold. Her friend, Akiko, approaches and asks if she knows anything. Miyu says no. After school, she runs through the woods, crying desperately. "Larva! LARVA! Where are you?!" She laments that she did not mean to take the girl's blood, it just HAPPENED. She couldn't control herself. Larva appears, robed and masked, and takes her silently in his arms, comforting her.

At home, Akiko has dropped by unexpectedly. Miyu is sad and withdrawn: her mother has told her that the girl at school has died. When the girls are alone in the garden, Akiko smiles slyly and says: "I saw you. At school. I know you drank that girl's blood." Miyu protests feebly, but Akiko says that she wants eternal life and bares her neck to Miyu. Miyu tries to look away, but after a moment, her eyes glow gold and she reaches forward. Akiko, frightened, backs away. All of a sudden, Miyu's mother arrives and the two girls look guilty. Miyu's mother slaps Miyu and sends Akiko home. Her mother explains that Miyu is a vampire. Miyu asks if her mother is a vampire too, but her mother does not respond. Instead, she places a glass of blood in front of Miyu. "This is for you, but it will be your last. You must not drink blood." Miyu remembers how her mother stopped Akiko from leaving earlier and bursts out: "This is Akiko's blood, isn't it? You killed her!" Her mother says nothing, turns and leaves. Miyu stands, sobbing hysterically, as her mother sighs and glances at her husband. He looks disinterested. The glass falls from Miyu's hand, empty. She cries harder; her eyes fade from gold to red.

The leader of the Shinma comes for Miyu that very evening. Her mother explains that she and Miyu are Shinma, of the only tribe left on Earth to guard the Dark. Now, Miyu must become the new guardian and watch over the Dark, where the Shinma have chosen to retreat. Miyu is terrified and clings to her mother. The leader of the Shinma reaches out to grab her, but Miyu's mother summons a flame - much like Miyu's in the future - and keeps him away. "Run, Miyu, run!" she cries, grabbing her daughter by the hand. The leader of the Shinma reaches out for Miyu again, but this time it is Larva who breaks the creature's hold. Miyu and her mother run away while Larva and her father stay behind. Miyu cries out in worry for them, but is dragged away.

In the next scene, Miyu is drinking from a tap of water and crying. "It doesn't help, mother. I'm still thirsty..." Her mother shakes her head and makes her promise to try not to drink blood anymore. Miyu says she'll try, but it's so hard and she's so very thirsty... Her mother reveals that she made Miyu's father into a vampire, to keep him at her side eternally. Unfortunately, Shinma age as a human does, while vampires made by Shinma do not. Now, her husband has nothing to live for, and is a man without purpose or will to live. (I'm uncertain if Miyu's mother is a vampire, or just a regular Shinma). They run again, and Miyu falters, her throat burning. She's so very thirsty... She falls and her mother protects her from the Shinma again, then Miyu finds herself staring at her mother's neck. She hears the blood beat and her eyes go gold. She is crying as she takes her mother's blood. Her mother is horrified and faints. Miyu is crying, but couldn't help herself. As she tastes the blood, she remembers the glass of blood she had assumed was Akiko's. But the blood then tasted the same as her mother's does now.

Now, Miyu hunts the Shinma that escaped the Dark on the night she fled from her destiny. Her parents are sealed in a room filled with glass until the day she returns all the Shinma to the Dark, Larva included. Until her mission has been fulfilled, she will not age, and she has been granted security from the weaknesses other vampires face. When Himiko asks why she hunts the Shinma, she replies that she hunts them for one reason only. It's easy to realize that she wants to apologize to her mother.

When Larva has been freed from Miyu's bond, he responds by killing her. Miyu dies and Larva smiles. Luckily, Yui and Ranka (and, of course, Nagi!) arrive, warned by a strange presentiment of Yui's. Through some strange magical procedure, Yui manages to make a "clone" of Miyu by using her own blood and Miyu's soul. Miyu revives and has gained the powers of the Shi. She battles the Western Shinma and starts winning. Later, Larva and Miyu meet again and Larva remembers her, returning to his former attitude toward her. He then urges her to take his blood once more, and she eagerly agrees. Miyu means "beautiful evening".

Jane Eyre

Lee el texto

There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. We had been wandering, indeed, in the leafless shrubbery an hour in the morning; but since dinner (Mrs. Reed, when there was no company, dined early) the cold winter wind had brought with it clouds so sombre, and a rain so penetrating, that further out-door exercise was now out of the question.

I was glad of it: I never liked long walks, especially on chilly afternoons: dreadful to me was the coming home in the raw twilight, with nipped fingers and toes, and a heart saddened by the chidings of Bessie, the nurse, and humbled by the consciousness of my physical inferiority to Eliza, John, and Georgiana Reed.

The said Eliza, John, and Georgiana were now clustered round their mama in the drawing-room: she lay reclined on a sofa by the fireside, and with her darlings about her (for the time neither quarrelling nor crying) looked perfectly happy. Me, she had dispensed from joining the group; saying, "She regretted to be under the necessity of keeping me at a distance; but that until she heard from Bessie, and could discover by her own observation, that I was endeavouring in good earnest to acquire a more sociable and childlike disposition, a more attractive and sprightly manner --something lighter, franker, more natural, as it were-- she really must exclude me from privileges intended only for contented, happy, little children."

"What does Bessie say I have done?" I asked.

"Jane, I don't like cavillers or questioners; besides, there is something truly forbidding in a child taking up her elders in that manner. Be seated somewhere; and until you can speak pleasantly, remain silent."

A breakfast-room adjoined the drawing-room, I slipped in there. It contained a bookcase: I soon possessed myself of a volume, taking care that it should be one stored with pictures. I mounted into the window-seat: gathering up my feet, I sat cross-legged, like a Turk; and, having drawn the red moreen curtain nearly close, I was shrined in double retirement.

Folds of scarlet drapery shut in my view to the right hand; to the left were the clear panes of glass, protecting, but not separating me from the drear November day. At intervals, while turning over the leaves of my book, I studied the aspect of that winter afternoon. Afar, it offered a pale blank of mist and cloud; near a scene of wet lawn and storm-beat shrub, with ceaseless rain sweeping away wildly before a long and lamentable blast.

I returned to my book--Bewick's History of British Birds: the letterpress thereof I cared little for, generally speaking; and yet there were certain introductory pages that, child as I was, I could not pass quite as a blank. They were those which treat of the haunts of sea-fowl; of "the solitary rocks and promontories" by them only inhabited; of the coast of Norway, studded with isles from its southern extremity, the Lindeness, or Naze, to the North Cape -

Yo me alegré.

The Fall of the House of Usher
(1839)

by Edgar Allan Poe
(Boston, 1809 - Baltimore, 1849)

DURING the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in
the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung
oppressively low in the heavens, had been passing
alone, on horseback, through a singularly dreary tract
of country; and at length found myself, as the shades
of the evening drew on, within view of the melancholy
House of Usher. I know not how it was --but, with the
first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable
gloom pervaded my spirit. I say insufferable; for the
feeling was unrelieved by any of that
half-pleasurable, because poetic, sentiment, with
which the mind usually receives even the sternest
natural images of the desolate or terrible.
(To be continued)

Edgar Allan Poe

Digo
insufrible, pues aquel sentimiento no estaba mitigado

Dear Noelia, many thanks for being there! Of course, I am sure that what you
uploaded to the Files Section will be of so much help! Come on, would you
dare to write some lines in English for us to read and then translate them
to Spanish? It would also help a lot!

Hello people! Many thanks, Noelia, for your consent for me to make some
soggestions about your sentences!
Hola gente! Muchas gracias, Noelia, por permitirme hacerte algunas
sugerencias apra mejorar las oraciones!
"Each morning, the birds they awake me with its happy one to sing": Yo
diría: "Each mornings, the birds wake me up with their happy singing".
Si
decimos "The birds", entonces no necesitaremos decir "They", porque "The
And En lugar de "happy one to sing" yo
diría simplemente "Happy singing".
"...the sun strikes to my window with its hot rays and the heavenly sky does
that me of account that each day is unique".
Quizás si dijéramos "...Makes
me realize that each day is unique" quedaría la oración más correcta.
Can anybody tell anything else to make it clearer for us, just English
learners?

Noelia, Ireally hope you won't hate me too much for daring to suggest
these changes!
Hugs and kisses -abrazos y besos-,

Hello people! Many thanks, Noelia! I wouldn ot dare to correct just a single
point of your job, first of all because I think it is quite good, and also
because I am just learning English, like you!  If you want me to, I would
just dare to make some suggestions for us to improve it just a little, but I
would need your consent first! Anyway, the idea is for these sentences to be
translated, not to be corrected! -smile-.
Hola gente!  Muchas gracias, Noelia! No me atrevería a corregir tu trabajo
Si querés, sólo me
-sonrisa-.
Hugs and take care, and many thanks again!

Last weekend I turned on the television in the evening and discovered
what I thought was a surprisingly rare event - a Spanish film with
subtitles.
It turned out after a few clues that the whole thing was
Argentinian!!! - the first that I can ever recall on British TV!
The film was called "The Son of the Bride" (El hijo de la novia)
(2001 - Juan José Campanella). I found it gripping as there was a
strong psychological weave to the story. The main character was Rafa
(el) a middle-aged, middle-class gentleman in full mid-life crisis
exacerbated by marital and family problems. His ex-wife, estranged
child, new partner, rediscovered schoolchum, alzheimer's-suffering
mother and retiring father caused collective mayhem which tested the
protagonist to his limits. It was full of pathos and humour and
although not ordinarily my choice of film, I followed it carefully to
the end and thought it was worthwhile.

I have had a couple of Mexican friends (with their distinctive
accent) but I am largely ignorant of the varieties of Spanish in
South America.
I took this film as a sample of "Argentinian" Spanish.
A few linguistic points.
1) I noticed that speakers (as everywhere in peninsula Spain) omit
pronouncing the final "S" when there is a following "R" as in:
"es ma(s) rico", "no hay ma(s) remedio" "lo(s) Romanos".
2) There were a number of "Italianismos" where "gamba" was used
instead of "pierna", "lavoro" instead of "trabajo", and "ciao"
instead of "adios".
3) When talking of dreams someone asked "And what is YOURS?"
This came out as: "Y vos, cual es el tuyo". My instincts would suggest
rather: "Y vos, cual es el vuestro?...but never mind!
4) Instead of "noticias" I heard "novedades". "Intensive care" in
hospital after a serious accident was called "terapia intensiva".
Other phrases I hadn't heard for a while were: "en serio" "que churro"
"es un tramite".
5) It was nice to hear a bit of (modernised) Shakespeare as someone
attempted the "Ser o no ser...." speech from Hamlet at the actors'
rehearsal. I also enjoyed the playing of HANDEL's LARGO when Rafa was
pleading fruitlessly with the priest to allow his elderly parents to
have a church wedding.

1) The discussion about "foot-sloggers" is ridiculous.
Even it it turns out that this "term" is an ephemeral piece
of "squaddie-jargon" it is not the sort of thing anyone in their
right mind would want to repeat. Don't forget, army recruits are not
usually drawn from the highest echelons of society and therefore
their ways and customs (and their slang) can rarely be held up as
representing paragons of social decency and decorum. BE VERY
CAREFUL!!!

2) Around about 1920, when the whole world was a mystery to all but
the super-wealthy and well-travelled, English people would know
about "corned beef" from THE ARGENTINE and call the inhabitants of
that nation "Argentines".
Because of a growing international familiarity in post-war years due
largely to football competitions many nations of the world (outside
the commonwealth) became household names to us British/English.
From about the sixties onwards it became old-fashioned to
use "Argentine" and the replacements, "Argentina" and "Argentinian"
became more normal.
The unfortunate business in the Falklands in the eighties (and I have
to confess - at the risk of committing treason - that there is a
strong jingoistic tendancy alive throughout the whole of British
society) gave the "gutter-press" a field-day spawning the
word "Argies" to mean Argentinian (i.e. enemy) servicemen. That word
in itself is coincidentally connected in the common mind to the
phrase: "argy-bargy" (meaning "a quarrel") and so a rather succinct
word with derogatory overtones became instantly popular and was used
throughout the time of that conflict.

3) The Rio de la Plata (my keyboard won't do accents at the moment
without erasing the whole email) is known as the River Plate due
solely to a famous film at the cinema called "The battle of the River
Plate". As a child this title seemed as self-explanatory as "The
Boston Tea Party" and caused great misunderstanding. I was expecting
to see a giant piece of porcelain of metal rise up out of a river and
had no idea that the whole thing (as with Argentina in general)
contains some very esoteric reference to "SILVER". For the sake of
sanity someone with international power should decree that the River
Plate is now called SILVER RIVER in English just like Peking is now
Beijing and Leningrad is now St Petersburg and save everyone the
trauma of enforced confusion!

4) I have never been happy with the name "Buenos Aires"!
Is this something like the strange habit of (seemingly)unnecessary
pluralisation that we find in "Buenos dias" and "buenas noches"
and "felices navidades" and "felices pascuas"?
Surely on a fine night by the shores of the south Atlantic some
explorer of considerable political influence may have
uttered "Que "buen aire" (or "aire mas bueno") sopla esta noche" from
whence logically evolved the name of the capital city. Revealing to
English schoolchildren the "good airs" of Argentina elicits
wonderment and disbelief!

Hello everyone!

We share a good deal of information in this list. A single subject often
spans several messages, and it's not always easy to find some months later
that message that once had something that you really need or want to
remember today. For example, if I'm not mistaken it was Martín the one who
started a list of animals a few days ago, and I was just about to start
another list when I came up with this idea.

I guess many of you are familiar with what a "wiki" is. For those who are
not, a wiki[1] is an on-line database which anyone can edit. You have
probably heard of Wikipedia[2]. If you haven't, I strongly recommend your
checking it out. It is probably the most complete encyclopedia you can find
today, available in virtually every language, and free of charge!

There are many free wiki services. One that I found that I particularly
liked is wikihost.org[3]. I actually had this idea lingering on in my mind
for a while: how about starting one, and start adding the useful information
in our future messages in such a centralized place? Or is it just one of
those crazy ideas that I so frequently have?

It's just a pity that Yahoo! Groups doesn't include a wiki.

As always, please correct my English!

These are some of the 'bad' ones that I have heard here in America..

usually on the Television..*laughing*... I don't think that these pick-up lines work well..

 Hello Ignacio, Tony.

As long as simple explanations go, the name Buenos Aires is a shortening and adaptation of a longer one.

The city was founded twice, in 1536 by Don Pedro de Mendoza, then it was levelled by natives and then re-founded in 1580 by Don Juan de Garay, the latter call it:
Ciudad de la Santísima Trinidad y Puerto de Santa María del Buen Aire. Note the singular and that the name refers to the harbour not the city.

The origin of the name is curiously pagan, it came from the avocation of Mary as the protector of sailors which in turn comes from the White Goddess (Diosa Blanca) or Foam Goddess (Diosa de la Espuma) in Las Islas Baleares, or Balneario from Latin Balnearium. When Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire all these pagan temples were reassigned to some saint or virgin from the Christian pantheon. This one in particular received the image of the Bonaria Virgin or Virgin of the Good Air  (Virgen del Buen Aire o viento) protector of vessels and sailors.

The site of the first foundation is not known but there is a theory that it was near the Punta de los Buenos Aires, where nowadays is Parque Lezama (for members  who know the city) a place where it seems there was then a kind of building to test for "Good Airs" (Buenos Aires) to sail from the port. This last part is not proven but can be taken as the reason of the name of the city.
Some corrections,

The word "lavoro" doesn't exist in Argentina. The correct word is "laburo". This word is correct Spanish.

You said,

2) There were a number of "Italianismos" where "gamba" was used
instead of "pierna", "lavoro" instead of "trabajo", and "ciao"
instead of "adios".

Yes, it's true. In Buenos Aires and Montevideo many people spoken a dialect called "cocoliche" a mixture between Spanish and Italian. Many Argentine words come from the "cocoliche."

By the way,The word "vos" is the singular of "vosotros". Its use it lost in the majority Spanish Speaking countries.

I don't know it still remained in Argentina and other Spanish Speaking countries. I'm not a grammarian, so that I can't give you a good explanation of this subject.

I do not know about how unique Spanish pluralisation is, there are too many languages in the world. Nevertheless I agree that those languages as Italian, French, German, et al use the singular form. In the group of Romance I think I have heard some Brazilian people use "Boas noites" but my command of Portuguese is pretty near to nil so I cannot stress the point. Maybe Luis can since he knows the language.
Even if there are other languages which use pluralisation it is clearly demonstrated that it is not the rule so it would be an interesting point to delve in trying to find out why. The reason seems to rest in a psychological base more than in a lexical or syntactical one. If it is so, it would not be easy to realize a serious research.
Ramón

The pluralisation of greetings is unique to the Spanish! All others
deriving from a common (Latin)cultural base keep to the singular and
this extends further back across those now counted as having an Indo-European linguistic parent.
Bonjour - bon dia - buon giorno - good day - guten tag - dobry den -
Joyeux Noël - Buon natale - Merry Christmas
I think "Felices Pascuas" has a slight parallel in French where "Pâque"
(singular) is the Jewish Passover and "Pâques"(plural) is used
for "Easter" to give a mish-mash of singular adjective with plural noun
but counted all as feminine singular thus "Bonne Pâques!
However this common thread has not entered Italian where "Felice pascua!" is all singular.

A riddle to unravel here I suspect!
Best wishes

Hi,

I lived with people from different Spanish speaking
countries, and trying to understand how greetings work
gave me a real hard time. Everytime I said "¡Buen
día!" I got "¡Buenos días!" as a reply, and vice
versa. The same thing everytime I run into someone on
the street: if I say "¡Hola!" I get "¡Adiós!" as a
reply and vice versa. Embarrasing as this may sound, I
really don't understand how this works!

Regarding your Portuguese question, I consider myself
rather fluent in this language as to contribute
something. I spent a fair amount of time in São Paulo
and never heard anyone saying "boas noites" or
something similar, unless on purpose when mimicking
Spanish speakers.

The Island of the Feelings

"there was once... in a precious and beautiful island they inhabited
all the feelings and human emotions that can feel. Convivian the
Fear, the Wisdom, the Love, the Anguish, the Happiness, the Sadness
and many but. All they were there. In spite of them graze natural
of the contact, the life was extremely tranquil even to
foreseeable. At times, The Routine, did that The Boredom remained
asleep, or the Impulse armed some scandal, but many times, The
Constancy and the Contact managed to pacify to the Discontent. A
day unexpectedly for all the inhabitants of the island, the
Knowledge called a meeting. When the Distraction was given for
aware and the Laziness arrived al place of encounter, all they been
present.

The Knowledge Said: - I Have a bad news to give them: the Island
sinks

All the emotions that lived in the island said: - ¡Not as can be!
If we live aqui since always!

The knowledge repeated: - The Island sinks - ¡But cannot be!
Perhaps you are wrong! - The Knowledge almost never is mistaken -
said the Conscience, realizing the truth-. If he says that he
sinks, he should be because he sinks. - But, ¿what do we be going
to do now? -They asked the others.

Then the Knowledge answered: - of course, each one can do what want,
but I I suggest them that they seek the way to abandon the
island. ... Build a ship, a rowboat, a raft or something that
permit them to be gone, because the one that remain in the island,
will disappear with her. - You would Not be able to help us? -
They asked all, because they trusted in their capacity. - Not!- the
Knowledge said-, The Forecast and I we have built an airplane and as
soon as finish to tell them this, we will fly toward the most nearby
island.

The emotions said: - ¡Not! But not! What will be of us?

That said, the Knowledge rose themselves al airplane with their
associate and, carrying of stowaway al Fear, that is not a fool
already had hidden in the motor, they left the island.

All the emotions, in fact, they were dedicated to build a rowboat, a
ship, a sailboat. ..Todas... save the Love.

Because the love was so related to each thing of the island that
said: - to Leave this island... after all what I lived here.. How
would he be able I to leave this arbolito, for example? Ahhh. ...
We share so many
things..

And while the emotions were dedicated to manufacture the middle to
be gone, the Love rose to each tree, smelled each rose, was itself
to the beach and rolled in the sand as was used to doing in other
times. It touched each stone. ..y caressed each branch.. Al to
arrive at the beach, exactly al place since where the sun left, its
favorite place, wanted to think with that candor that has the love: -
" Perhaps the island sink for a ratito... and later revive. ...
because not?"

And it remained during days and days measuring the height of the
tide to revise if the process of sinking was not reversible..

The island sank each time more.. Nevertheless, the Love could think
about building nothing, because was so sore that alone was capable
of crying and to moan for which would lose. Occurred him itself
then that the island was very large, and that even when itself to
sink a little would always be able to be taken refuge in the highest
zone. ... Any thing was better than having that to be gone. A
small renunciation never had been a problem for him.. So once but,
it touched the piedritas of the edge... and was dragged for the
sand... and again was wet the feet in the small beach... that in
other moments was enormous..

Then, without being given counts too much of its renunciation,
walked toward the north part of the island, that though was not the
one that more pleased him, was the highest one.. And the island
sank each day a little more. ... And the Love took refuge each day
in a smaller space..

- After so many things that we pass together- reproached to the
island.

Until, finally, alone it remained a small portion of firm floor; the
remainder had been covered completely by the water. Just just then,
the love realized that the island was sinking truly. It understood
that, if did not leave the island, the love would disappear for
always of the face of the land.. Walking among paths flooded and
jumping enormous puddles of water, the love was directed to the
bay. Already there was not possibilities to be built an exit as
that of all; had lost too much time in denying what lost and in
crying what disappeared little by little before its eyes. From
there would be able to see to pass its companions in the
embarkations. It had the hope to explain its situation and that
some of its companions it to understand and carried him. Observing
the sea, wine to come the ship of the Wealth and did him signs. The
Wealth approached a little bit one to the bay.

- Wealth, you that you have a so large ship, ¿would not carry me to
the neighboring island? I suffered so much the disappearance of the
island that did not have time to manufacture me a rowboat.

The Wealth I answer him: - I Am so loaded of money, of jewels and of
precious stones, that I do not take place for you, I feel it.. -And
continued its road without looking at behind.

The Love continued observing, and saw to come to the Vanity in a
full, beautiful ship of decorations, wigs, marbles and florecitas of
all the colors. It called muchisimo the attention. The Love
stretched a little and shouted: - ¡Vanidad.. Vanity... you carry me
with you!

The Vanity I look at al Love and told him: - I would love I carried,
but.. You have an aspect¡... You are so unpleasant... so dirty,
and so disarranged! ... Pardon but you would deface my ship- and
was itself.

And thus, the love asked aid to each one of the emotions. To the
Constancy, to the Sensuality, to the Jealousy, to the Indignation
and even the Hatred. And when it thought that already nobody would
pass, he saw to be approached a very small ship, the last one, that
of the Sadness.

- Sadness, sister -he told him-, your that you know me so much, you
will not abandon me here, are as sensitive as I.. You will carry me
with you?

The Sadness answered him: - I would carry you, I assure it you, but
I am taaaan sad... that I prefer to be alone -and without saying
nothing more, moved away.

And the Love, pobrecito, realized that by to have remained connected
with those things that so much loved, he and the island were going
to sink in the sea until disappearing.

Then it sat down in it I finalize bit of his island that remained to
expect the end..

Suddenly, the Love felt that someone chistaba: - Chst- Chst- Chst..

It was an old stranger that did signs since a rowboat to oars. The
Love was surprised: - ¿TO my?- asked, being carried a hand al
chest. - Yes, yes- the old one said-, to tí. They see with me, you
rise you to my rowboat
and rows with me, I you save.

The Love looked at him and wanted to give him him explanations: -
what happened, is that I remained.. - I Understand -the old one he
said without leaving it to finish the phrase-, The love rises rose
al rowboat and together they began to row to be moved away of the
island. Not a lot of time spent before being able to see as the
last centimeter of
the island that remained afloat finished of being sunk and the
island disappeared for always.

- Never an island will exist again as this - murmured the love,
perhaps expecting that the old one contradicted it and some hope
gave him. - Not -the old one said- as this, never.

When they arrived at the neighboring island, the Love understood
that continued alive. Realized that was going to continue
existing. It rotated on its feet to thank him al old, but this,
without saying a word, had gone so mysterious as had appeared.

Then, the Love, very plotted, was in search of the Wisdom to ask him:

- ¿How can be? I do not know it and he saved me.. Nobody
understood that me to have remained without embarkation, but he
helped me, he saved me and I not even know who is..

Then the Wisdom looked at it to the eyes a good while and said:

- It Is the unique capable one to obtain that the love survive when
the pain of a loss causes believes him that is impossible to
continue ahead. The unique capable one to give him a new
opportunity al love when seems to be extinguished. The one that
saved you, Love, is the Time. ..."

- No podrías ayudarnos? - preguntaron todos, por que confiaban en su
capacidad.

- ¡No!

¿Me llevarás contigo?

Ven conmigo, súbete a mi bote y

preguntarle:

- ¿Cómo puede ser? Yo no lo conozco y él me salvó... Nadie

Hi Sheri,

I agree with you 100% that calling customers/patrons "guests" is silly. But it's done all the time. In a hotel I am often a "guest". I am also a "guest" at a local restaurant even though every time I go in the waitresses talk to each other as if I didn't even exist. And have you noticed that many hotel employees are now called "team members"? Gimme me a break!!

James

Patrons are people who support the 'arts'.....

That is the word that we have used for ever in speaking of people who come into the library..

It is just the last few years....

when the words have been changed... or tried to change...

a marketing ploy...

first ...calling them customers, that we are here to serve...

and then the latest, at the last seminar/meeting we had with consultants -- the trend and how many libraries are calling patrons 'guests'..

To me this is almost just too silly...

but... I guess to get people into the library.

We are also in the process of making our library look and feel more like a bookstore.. with books in clusters .. books facing out...

making media (DVD, mp3, and the like) take the prime marketing positioning in the library layout..

*sheri*

ask your library if they have been asked to call you something other than patrons... I would be interested in knowing the 'depth' of this trend.

Our library has a new director, a new face, a new outlook..and they have hired way too many consultants to tell us 'what to do'... and right now, it appears that the powers that be are picking and choosing what to use..

Hi Lynn,

Our library also calls us "patrons". I never thought of it until you wrote it. Kind of a strange term for "us" but nonetheless it's used all the time.

Now and fortune: Flame and eternity

Moonllight descends

on the wind´s flapping wings.

Night on the surface of blue water

never cools down your fingertips

writing my prisoner.

I´m your prisoner.

Embrace me from behind.

The words of your country you wishper

are slightly heart-rendingly romantic

I´m your prisoner.

I´m your prisoner.

Tonight, you are

gently enfolding me,

as brightly as in the morning sun,

your dark eyes shine

that brightly at me.

Once again, in the deep night, I

take back one-sided declarations

of love

Your slightly uncertain lips melt

me.

Coffee Raises Blood Pressure, Though Not by Much

There's good news and bad news for java junkies. Modest coffee drinking is associated with a small increase in blood pressure, Johns Hopkins investigators say, but it's probably not enough to substantially increase your risk of hypertension.

In a long-term study of more than 1,000 men, drinking a daily cup of regular coffee raised systolic pressure (the upper number) by 0.19 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure (the lower number) by 0.27 mmHg. Coffee drinkers also had a greater incidence of hypertension (28 percent) than their non-coffee drinking counterparts (19 percent).

Results of the study, published in the March 25 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, also showed that those who drank five or more cups of coffee a day were up to 1.6 times more likely to develop hypertension than non-coffee drinkers, although these associations were less significant after the researchers took into account alcohol intake, smoking and other characteristics associated with coffee drinking.

"Overall, coffee drinkers had higher blood pressures than people who did not drink coffee, but there was no set 'dose-response' relationship," says Michael J. Klag, M.D., M.P.H., lead author of the study and director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Hopkins. Still, Klag says people who already have high blood pressure should reduce their coffee intake because other studies have clearly shown that avoiding caffeine-containing drinks can lower blood pressure.

The research team analyzed data from the Johns Hopkins Precursors Study, a long-term study of male medical students who enrolled at Hopkins between 1948 and 1964 and who continue to be followed. In medical school and through the follow-up period, information on family history and health behaviors has been collected.

For this report, coffee intake, blood pressure and presence of hypertension were assessed in 1,017 white males during school and up to 11 additional times over an average follow-up of 33 years. At the study's start, the men were young (average age 26), were at a healthy weight, and had desirable blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Coffee intake was assessed during medical school, every five years after graduation until 1984, and in 1978, 1986, 1989 and 1993. After 1986, participants were asked about caffeinated coffee. Blood pressure and incidence of hypertension were determined annually through mailed surveys.

Overall, 82 percent of the participants reported they drank an average of two cups of coffee daily. Coffee drinkers were more likely to drink alcohol and to smoke cigarettes. During the follow-up period, 281 men developed hypertension around age 53. By age 60, the incidence of hypertension (28 percent) was greater among men who drank coffee in medical school than in those who did not (19 percent). Risk of hypertension was slightly greater in those drinking three or four cups a day compared with those who abstained.

The majority of coffee drank most likely was percolated and unfiltered, Klag says.

"The coffee we drink today is probably a little healthier than what this population consumed, since coffee filters didn't come into widespread use until after 1975," he says. "Passing boiled coffee through a paper filter removes terpenes - chemical particles that raise cholesterol."

The study was supported by the National Institute on Aging, a division of the National Institutes of Health. Other authors were Nae-Yuh Wang, Ph.D.; Lucy A. Meoni, Sc.M.; Frederick L. Brancati, M.D., M.H.S.; Lisa A. Cooper, M.D., M.P.H.; Kung-Yee Liang, Ph.D.; J. Hunter Young, M.D., M.H.S.; and Daniel E. Ford, M.D., M.P.H.

WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU
Whitney Houston
Words and Music by Dolly Parton

If I should stay,
I would only be in your way.
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you ev'ry step of the way.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
You, my darling you.  Hmm.

Bittersweet memories
that is all I'm taking with me.
So, goodbye.  Please, don't cry.
We both know I'm not what you, you need.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.

(Instrumental solo)

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of.
And I wish to you, joy and happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I, I will always love you.

You, darling, I love you.

Ooh, I'll always, I'll always love you

That's the way love goes
Janet Jackson

Like a moth to a flame
Burned by the fire
My love is blind
Can't you see my desire
That's the way love goes
Come with me don't you worry
I'm gonna make you crazy
I'll give you the time of your life
I'm gonna take you places
You've never been before and
You'll be happy that you came
Oh, I'm gonna take you there
That's the way love goes
Don't mind if I light candles
I like to watch us play and
Baby I've got on what you like
Come closer baby closer
Reach out and feel my body
I'm gonna give you all my love
Oh sugar, don't you hurry
You've got me here all night
Just close your eyes and hold on tight
Oh baby, don't stop, don't stop
Go deeper baby deeper
You feel so good I'm gonna cry
Oh, I'm gonna take you there
That's the way love goes

Black Or White
Michael Jackson

I took my baby on a Saturday bang
Boy is that girl with you
Yes we're one and the same

Now I believe in miracles
And a miracle has happened tonight

But, if you're thinkin' about my baby
It don't matter if you're black or white

They print my message in the Saturday Sun
I had to tell them I ain't second to none

And I told about equality and it's true
Either you're wrong or you're right

But, if you're thinkin' about my baby
It don't matter if you're black or white

I am tired of this devil
I am tired of this stuff
I am tired of this business
Sew when the going gets rough
I ain't scared of your brother
I ain's scared of no sheets
I ain't scared of nobody
Girl when the goin' gets mean

Protection
For gangs, clubs, and nations
causing grief in human relations
It's a turf war on a global scale
I'd rather hear both sides of the tale
See, it's not about races
Just places
Faces
Where your blood comes from
Is were your space is
I've seen the bright get duller
I'm not going to spend my life being a color

Don't tell me you agree with me
When I saw you kicking dirt in my eye

But, if you're thinkin' about my baby
It don't matter if you're black or white

I said if you're thinkin' of being my baby
It don't matter if you're black or white

I said if you're thinkin' of being my brother
It don't matter if you're black or white

Ooh, ooh
Yea, yea, yea now
Ooh, ooh
Yea, yea, yea now

It's black, it's white
It's tough for them to get by
It's black, it's white, whoo

THE POWER OF LOVE
Celine Dion
(Gunther Mende, Candy DeRouge, Jennifer Rush, Mary Susan Applegate)

The whispers in the morning
Of lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling like thunder now
As I look in your eyes

I hold on to your body
And feel each move you make
Your voice is warm and tender
A love that I could not forsake

(First Chorus)
'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

Lost is how I'm feeling lying in your arms
When the world outside's too
Much to take
That all ends when I'm with you

Even though there may be times
It seems I'm far away
(But) Never wonder where I am
'Cause I am always by your side

(Repeat first chorus)

(Second Chorus)
We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
('Bout) Of the power of love

The sound of your heart beating
Made it clear
Suddenly the feeling that I can't go on
Is light years away

HAVE YOU EVER REALLY LOVED A WOMAN?

To really love a woman
To understand her - you gotta know her deep inside
Hear every thought - see every dream
N' give her wings - when she wants to fly
Then when you find yourself lyin' helpless in her arms
Ya know ya really love a woman

When you love a woman you tell her that she's really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one
Cuz she needs somebody to tell her that it's gonna last forever
So tell me have you ever really - really really ever loved a woman?

To really love a woman
Let her hold you - til ya know how she needs to be touched
You've gotta breathe her - really taste her
Til you can feel her in your blood
N' when you can see your unborn children in her eyes
Ya know ya really love a woman

When you love a woman you tell her that she's really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one
Cuz she needs somebody to tell her that you'll always be together
So tell me have you ever really - really really ever loved a woman?

You got to give her some faith - hold her tight
A little tenderness - gotta treat her right
She will be there for you, takin' good care of you
Ya really gotta love your woman...

I'D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE (BUT I WONT DO THAT)
Meatloaf

And I would do anything for love,
I'd run right into hell and back,
I would do anything for love,
I'll never lie to you and thats a fact.

But I'll never forget the way you feel right now
- Oh no - no way - I would do anything for love,
But I wont do that, I wont do that, anything for love,
I would do anything for love, I would do anything for love,
But I wont do that, I wont do that.

Some days it dont come easy,
Some days it dont come hard
Some days it dont come at all,
And these are the days that never end.

Some nights you breath fire,
Some nights your carved in ice,
Some nights your like nothing I've ever seen before, Or will again.

Maybe Im crazy, But it's crazy and it's true,
I know you can save me, No one else can save me now but you.

As long as the planets are turning,
As long as the stars are burning,
As long as your dreams are coming true - You better believe it! -

That I would do anything for love,
And I'll be there until the final act -
I would do anything for love!
And I'll take a Vow and Seal a pact -

But I'll never forgive myself if we dont go all the way - Tonight -
I would do anything for love!
I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
But I wont do that, I wont do that...

I would do anything for love,
Anything you've been dreaming of,
But I just wont do that...

Some days I pray for Silence,
Some days I pray for Soul,
Some days I just pray to the God of Sex and Drums and Rock 'N' Roll.

Some nights I lose the feeling,
Some nights I lose control,
Some nights I just lose it all when I watch you dance and the thunder rolls.

Maybe I'm lonely, And thats all I'm qualified to be,
There's just one and only, The one and only promise I can keep.

As long as the wheels are turning,
As long as the fires are burning,
As long as your prayers are coming true - You better believe it - !

That I would do anything for love!
And you know it's true and thats a fact,
I would do anything for love!
And there'll never be no turning back -

But I'll never do it better than I do it with you,
So long - So long - I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
But I wont do that, I wont do that!

I would do anything for love,
Anything you've been dreaming of,
But I just wont do that...

But I'll never stop dreaming of you
Everynight of my life - No Way -

I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
But I wont do that, I wont do that!

Girl  : Will you raise me up?
        Will you help me down?
Will you help get me right out of this Godforsaken town?
Will you make it a little less cold?

Boy   : I can do that!
        I can do that!

Girl  : Will you hold me sacred?
        will you hold me tight?
Can you colorize my life I'm so sick of black and white?
Can you make it a little less old?

Boy   : I can do that!
        I can do that!

Girl  : Will you make me some magic, with your own two hands?
Can you build an Emerald city with these grains of sand?
Can you give me something that I can take home?

Boy   : I can do that!
        I can do that!

Girl  : Will you cater to every fantasy that I've got?
Will ya hose me down with holy water - if I get too hot - ?

Boy   : I can do that!
        I can do that!

Girl  : Afert a while you'll forget everything,
It was a brief interlude, And a midsummer night's fling,
And you'll see that it's time to move on.

Boy   : I wont do that!
        I wont do that!

Girl  : I know the territory - I've been around,
It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down,
And sooner or later you'll be screwing around.

Boy   : I wont do that!
        I wont do that!

Anything for love, I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
But I wont do that, I wont do that.

(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never comin' 'round
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit terrified and then I see the look in your eyes
(Turn around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart

(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit restless and I dream of something wild
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit helpless and I'm lyin' like a child in your arms
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit angry and I know I've got to get out and cry
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit terrified but then I see the look in your eyes
(Turn around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight, and I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight, we'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right, 'cause we'll never be wrong
Together we can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time (all of the time)
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're livin' in a powder keg and givin' off sparks

I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love but now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life but now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say, a total eclipse of the heart

(Turn around, bright eyes)
(Turn around, bright eyes)

(Turn around)
Every now and then I know you'll never be the boy you always wanted to be
(Turn around)
But every now and then I know you'll always be the only boy who wanted me the way that I
   am
(Turn around)
Every now and then I know there's no one in the universe as magical and wondrous as you
(Turn around)
Every now and then I know there's nothing any better, there's nothing that I just
   wouldn't do
(Turn around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight, and I need you more than ever

I don't believe i'd love somebody
Just to pass the time..

But I believe in you
And I believe in you

I don't believe that beauty,
Will ever be replaced
I don't believe a masterpiece
Could ever match your face
The joker's always smiling
In every hand thats dealt
I dont believe that when you die
Your presence isnt felt

But I believe in you
And I believe in you
But I believe in you
And I believe in you
And if you ever have to go away
Nothing in my world could ever be the same
Nothing lasts for ever, but together til the end
I'll give you everything I have again and again

'Cause I believe In you, I believe In,
I Believe in you, I Believe in,
I Believe in you, I believe in,
I believe in you, I Believe in.

'Cause I believe in you
And I believe in you
But I believe in you
And I believe in you
I believe in you, I Believe in
I believe in you, I Believe in
I believe in you, I Believe in
I believe in you, I Believe in

I believe, I believe, I believe in you....
